Good morning, everyone! Brrrr. It is sooo cold. But I hear it's going to warm up today, just enough to get some snow and sleet. Gosh, what have we been averaging lately, two storms a week?
We have some wonderful dogs inhouse. We had a fabulous Meet and Greet last Saturday and expect to have another one this week. Some of the dogs and pups have gone home already, all great homes. Poor Rascal, he was the most popular dog at the event, but one thing after another has prevented his adoption. The first folks decided that their elderly dog would be too traumatized for such a big dog, the second family had a family emergency, and the third family loved him but the dad started having allergic reactions on the way home. We have another couple very interested, repeat adopters, so we're hoping Rascal will be in his forever home soon! Casper goes home today and I've got to take pictures of the others as their current photos just don't do them justice. Well, off to start the day. The sun is coming up, which is a good thing as it will warm the place up. I feel so bad for my birds as that room is chilly. I have the heat cranked up to 80 and it still feels cold. More later.

January 17, 2007. Thursday
Reflection of the day: When our spirituality can also express itself in economic justice, it demonstrates how costly faith really is. Jacques Ellul. God's justice operates on the logic that those who always take will eventually be empty-handed, while those who give and seek to bring reconciliation and equity will also be blessed. Ellul, in recognizing this principle, writes: "We (in the West) have no choice but to regard ourselves as debtors to the rest of the world. We owe back what our ancestors took."

Snow Day
January 14th. It's a snow day for most kids so I am blessed to have two teens, Lily and Lara, whose moms said they could spend the night and get snowed in with me and the puppies. I let them sleep in a little and got up to let the puppies out and even though they had never seen snow, they loved it! My lilac bush was all bent over the outside door, forming a little tunnel for them to go through. Another developmental hurdle that they all succeeded. Being from Tennessee, I doubt they've ever seen snow, so they are just discovering how to play in it and are having a ball. My own Maggie loves snow. She has already been out earlier and was rolling around in it, making snow angels. Snow is for kids and dogs. Husband Dave was not too thrilled to go out and shovel the driveway. I probably won't see him until much later tonight as the commute is supposed to be a bear tonight. Lucky for me I have two helpers. Well, my paperwork is piling up so I better tear myself away from the beautiful view outside my window and buckle down with the much-needed paperwork and filing that goes into running a dog rescue. Bye for now.
Welcome to my Blog
Welcome to my blog! Sheryl, our Web guru, created this page for me, so here goes. I have no idea how to do this yet, but the teens said it's like an online diary. Some background information, I run a dog rescue organization out of Framingham/Wayland, MA called Save A Dog, so most of my blogging will be about Save A Dog. I'm also a student of homeopathy and am enrolled in my second year at Teleosis School of Homeopathy. We have several holistic vets who care for our dogs, so it's been an eye-opening and exciting experience to see how well alternative medicine works. We've adapted our medical protocol for our foster dogs to receive holistic care as the main method of treatment. I've seen first-hand so many dogs benefit from homeopathy and acupuncture, as well as a change in diet with supplements and fish oils added. I've also seen many dogs harmed by rimadyl, prednisone and all the synthetic drugs that traditional medicine has to offer, so I try to steer our adopters towards the more holistic route. It's a process that doesn't always happen overnight because we've all been trained to think one way our whole lives and we get used to the "quick fix" that a lot of these drugs provide, only to end up dealing more serious illnesses later. I could tell you story after story because I talk to people every day who have lost a pet after receiving some of these drugs. It's heartbreaking on the one hand, and on the other hand it's encouraging to see people go a different route with medical care after "learning the hard way" through the premature death of a pet who has been loaded up with chemicals. Anyway, this is a not-so-brief introduction to what's on my heart these days. If you have a pet, dog or cat, a good Web site to look at is http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/. No relation to me, sorry, but a wonderfully informative, sometimes radical, Web site introducing you to the road to health for your pet. Thanks for listening.
